Otter Watch

The two (we believe) cub otters were seen again last week and this time we watched them for about 10 minutes on Thursday 11th March at about 10am.  They swam towards the shore and towards us, so we stopped and got out of the car.  They came up on to the beach and spent several minutes just rolling about together and rubbing their scent on the seaweed.  After that, like  synchronised swimmers they slid down the sand and disappeared under the water. Although we waited for a while, they did not re-appear.  Perhaps they saw us?

Friday 12th March we saw the two youngsters again and a third otter nearby, all three were in the water and about 20 metres off shore but the single otter remaind at a distance. Was it Mum keeping an eye on her cubs or perhps a dog otter looking for romance?  We watched until they dived under the water.

We have not proved successful in our attempts to photograph the otters but that is something we will strive to achieve for the next diary.
