Spring may have taken a little longer than usual to kick in here on the banks of Loch Sunart, but things are now looking mild and absolutely beautiful. Beautiful Walks and Wild Activities in the Highlands
With the wildflowers in bloom, Ardnamurchan truly lights up at this time of year. There are fabulous walks and some truly unique places to visit in the area. With such low footfall for much of this wild region, the countryside is beautifully unspoiled too, with the sort of walks you won’t see a soul for hours.
One great spot seldom mentioned is the Ariundle Oakwood National Nature Reserve. It’s a truly enchanting place of ancient oak trees, exquisite butterflies and even the odd wildcat or pine marten. Indeed, it’s like stepping back to a time when oak woods spread right along the coast of Britain. It’s a mere 2.2 miles from our doors, with a nature trail and easy parking nearby at PH36 4HZ.
Should you prefer a day out on the waters, this time of year is also fabulous for activities on the lochs. If you feel brave, you could try wild swimming as the temperature rises. The fly fishing season is already well underway too, of course, with excellent brown trout angling to be had in the local rivers and smaller hill lochs especially.
