Mull, Tobermory and Iona

Mull, Tobermory and Iona

Iona
Is a tiny and beautiful Hebridean island off the west coast of Scotland, cradle of Christianity in Scotland, where in 563AD the Irish monk Columba (Columkille) established a monastic settlement that evangelised large parts of Scotland and the north of England and became an important centre of European Christianity. In the Middle Ages it became the site of a Benedictine abbey, and over the centuries it has attracted many thousands of people on their own pilgrim journeys.

Iona remains a centre for pilgrimage and tourism; the daily services of the Iona Community in the Abbey church and worship elsewhere on the island are open to all; many visitors come again and again. There is a year-round population of over 100; long-established island families as well as more recent arrivals, including those who work for the Iona Community in its centres as staff or volunteers. The abbey is now managed by Historic Scotland; the Iona Community remains in residence as a living, worshipping presence. The islanders, the Iona Community and Historic Scotland work together to maintain Iona as a place of welcome.

Mull
Tobermory is probably one of the most famous villages in Scotland, and now even in the world made famous by Balamory, the well known children’s program in the 90’s

Take the foot ferry from Kilchoan or cross via Lochaline for a great day out.  Try Café Fish for seriously fresh seafood lunches – hand made chocolates – Hand made silver – Tobermory distillery plus a wee taster!! and of course boat trips. A great day out with or without the car.

Ardnamurchan Beach

Top 5 Beaches on Ardnamurchan and more...

Of all the walks on Ardnamurchan the Beach walk is by far the most popular. It is very hard to pick a favourite as there are so many stunningly beautiful white sandy beaches but here are just a few - all dog friendly (but please watch out for sheep & ground nesting birds) - and all stunningly beautiful beyond your wildest dreams  - the only footprints in the sand will be yours so envelope yourself in the unsurpassed peace an beauty of this wild and wonderful area.

Dip your toes in the cold, crystal clear waters and don't forget to drag yourself away in time for dinner!

The food, the location, the rooms - all excellent. But what really stood out were the members of the team. Everybody was positive and enthusiastic, there was no sense of dictated routine or forced adherence to a set of standards. They just wanted you to have the best stay possible... A special mention to the front-of-house team as, even though they were under pressure, managed to give the impression that they had all the time in the world for every single customer.
I have worked with hospitality trainers for 30 years and can tell you that this level of relaxed but attentive service is extremely difficult to achieve.
Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable!

We stayed two nights (6/12-13) in room 10 which was small and with a limited view, but an excellent, modern bath. That's the worst I have to note because the food, setting/common rooms, staff and location were excellent. The food (breakfast and dinner both days) was the best of our total trip- smoked haddock with poached egg and porridge (with a half-shot of scotch!) were standouts for breakfast and dinners were about as excellent as food can be. Excellent wine list as well. The wait staff were new (mostly from Czech Republic) but very kind and solicitous. An excellent location (take the car ferry!) for exploring castles and quick visit to Oban. Would enthusiastically return!

We had a great stay at Kilcamb Lodge Hotel. The drive from Mallaig to Strontian was stunning. We received a warm welcome and were shown to our room which had a lovely view over the loch. We had a walk down by the loch before dinner - absolutely gorgeous scenery.

A beautiful location on the shores of Loch Sunart for an historic lodge, brought up to date with fantastic dining and lounge areas. Every single morsel of food I ate during my stay was absolutely delicious!

My boyfriend and I spent two lovely nights at Kilcamb lodge.
It is a beautiful and classy hotel. Friendly staff and excellent food.
I’m vegan and they made a special menu for me. I really appreciated that they gave me so many food options!

What a team at Kilcamb! We had the second of our now traditional Sunday lunches in the company of a friend who had particular dietary needs. The kitchen and table staff went out of their way to ensure we all got exactly the meal we each desired. It's easy to see why this hotel has three AA rosettes for its food. The three course Sunday lunch at £25 a head is unbeatable for both quality and value!

This beautiful country home lets you wake up each morning with stunning views of the Loch and Surrounding Hills. Our room was spacious, up to date, and well appointed- very comfortable. The ownership has done all they could to retrofit an older country home with modern comforts. Meals are gourmet. Plentiful breakfasts are made to order and the five-course gourmet dinners are well worth the price if they don’t come with your package.

We think that you have created “A Gold Standard” in this new environment. Superb food and an interesting complimentary wine list.

We hope to return in the Autumn/Winter.

The staff here are really tremendous. They were very helpful via email in advance of our trip and gave us a very warm welcome on arrival. Then an elderly relative was taken ill whilst staying here and they could not have been more helpful. They handled the situation with great care, tact and kindness. It made a very stressful situation far more bearable. We had just stayed somewhere else in the Highlands where the staff just weren't up to scratch and I had wondered if it was hard to get great staff in this area. Nope, cos here they are. I suspect they're very well trained and looked after. I also noted one of the waiters dealing with some pretty unpleasant customers with great patience and politeness. The location is stunning and so peaceful. You could just sit and look out at the loch all day.

I know this beautiful area of Scotland extremely well. Over the years I have stayed in all manner of different accommodations hereabouts. The Kilcamb is very comfortable, with a marvellous location. The staff are efficient, friendly and unobtrusive, and the food is truly special

We stayed 3 nights in the Kilcamb and we can hardly imagine a better hotel:
Excellent dining and fine breakfast make it a very rewarding stay, especially as the staff is very personal and helpful.

There really aren't enough superlatives to describe our four day break at Kilcamb. As ever, the food was extremely good and the room (suite?) was superb, with a view over the loch. Our two Labradors seemed to enjoy themselves, although because of the time of year, we kept them…

A short break on the edge of Loch Sunart. The hotel has a beautiful location. 10 rooms I believe , dog friendly with grounds that run to the waters edge. Plenty of space to allow social distancing. Staff really friendly and professional. Food is excellent , good wine list. Highly recommend.
