UNUSUAL AND OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCES NEARBY
The Ardnamurchan Peninsula is one of Scotland’s last true wildernesses—remote, cinematic, and full of unexpected discoveries. During your stay, you may wish to explore:
Garbh Eilean Wildlife Hide
A beautifully designed hide overlooking a tidal bay where otters, seals, herons, and sea eagles are regular visitors. It’s peaceful, atmospheric, and often astonishingly close‑up. This is not far from Kilcamb Lodge at all.
Ardnamurchan Volcano & Geopark
One of the best‑preserved ancient volcanic structures in Europe. The landscape is otherworldly—ring dykes, lava flows, and dramatic geological formations that feel almost lunar. If you're heading to Sanna Bay, you can drive through a volcano basin where Highland Cattle roam freely, and maybe stop at one or two of the most iconic viewpoints in the Highlands.
Castle Tioram
A hauntingly beautiful ruined castle on a tidal island. At low tide you can walk across the causeway; at high tide it becomes a solitary silhouette in the water. It’s wildly photogenic and steeped in history.
Sanna Bay
Often described as one of the most beautiful beaches in the UK. White sand, turquoise water, and a sense of remoteness that feels almost tropical—until the Highland breeze reminds you where you are.
Ariundle Oakwood National Nature Reserve
An ancient Celtic rainforest filled with moss‑draped trees, rare lichens, and a deep, almost mythical quiet. It’s a place that feels untouched by time. If you are looking for somehwere to recuperate and feel well, the air here is as clean and pure as you'll find anywhere.
Wildlife Encounters
The peninsula is one of the best places in Scotland to see golden eagles, red deer, otters, seals, pine martens, and even whales and dolphins along the coast. For nature‑focused readers, it’s a treasure trove.
Ardnamurchan Lighthouse
An absolute tick-box trip for those who like to tick off all the key geographical points in Britain - standing on the most Westerly point in mainland Britain, it is accessible via a single-track traffic-light system, but well worth the time - expect one of the best places to stop for a cuppa and a snack, and views to die for!
