Day 2 Ardnamurchan Lighthouse & Sanna Bay

A quick stop at the local wildlife hide to spot seals en-route or on the way back depending on viewing potential, then on to explore Ardnamurchan - the 'Wild West' of the Highlands by heading through an extinct volcano basin to touch down on the most Westerly point in mainland Britain at the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, where you can enjoy a cuppa and light lunch.

 

Then on to Sanna Bay for the afternoon - without doubt one of the most beautiful beaches in Britain, with white sands and aquamarine water, perfect for paddling, and with spectacular views out to the Inner Hebrides.  

 

Back to Kilcamb Lodge for dinner and an optional local Whisky/Gin tasting experience by a roaring log fire, with views out over the loch.

DAY 3 Glenfinnan Monument & Viaduct, and on to Mallaig

Visit to the Glenfinnan Monument and Viaduct

Refreshments to go for this first stop - tea/coffee and freshly baked shortbreads or similar.

 

Scenic coastal drive to the beautiful coastal resort of Mallaig

Exploring Camusdarach Beach and the Silver Sands en-route.

 

Return for Dinner at Kilcamb Lodge

DAY 4 Sunart Boat Cruise or a walk in Ariundle Oakwood

 

Enjoy a Wildlife boat cruise, looking out for seals, otters, White-tailed eagles and more.  

 

Either head out after lunch, or before with Afternoon Tea on your return.

 

 An alternative might be a walk in Ariundle Oakwood or a potter around the village before departure.

Ben Nevis & Fort William

Visit the foothills of Ben Nevis or enjoy a guided ascent.

Explore Fort William’s artisan shops and waterfront

You can also take a trip on the UK's only Mountain Gondola at the Nevis Range Visitor Centre - probably the most relaxing option!

Mallaig & The Small Isles 

Explore Mallaig, with an optional ferry to Rum, Eigg, or Muck. On the way take in Camusdarach Beach and Morar beach, both offering turqoise waters and views of Rum and Eigg. Other stunning spots in this area include Traigh Beach near Arisaig. Don't miss Mallaig's pretty fishing harbour.

Oban and Castle Stalker

Oban is a popular day out from Kilcamb Lodge - with pretty promenades, tasting experiences, a walking tour, castle and grounds or distillery to choose your perfect activity from. You could round it off with an ice cream at Ganavan Sands, or a stop in at Castle Stalker - both stunning viewpoints!

Mull and Tobermory

Take the ferry to Mull and explore the colourful streets of Tobermory, a fishing port where lobster pots are part of the everyday landscape, and a variety of vessels drop anchor to explore the local shops and eateries.  You'll spot some familiar viewpoints on the way!

Kilcamb Lodge sits on the Ardnamurchan peninsula beside Loch Sunart, so most routes involve scenic drives, lochs, forests, and ferry crossings. Below is a practical breakdown of what you might see depending on your approach.

From the East (Fort William direction)

This is the most common route.

Corran Ferry Crossing A short but iconic ferry trip across Loch Linnhe — a highlight in itself and the gateway to Ardnamurchan.

Ardgour & Loch Linnhe shoreline Beautiful coastal scenery with viewpoints ideal for photography.

Glen Tarbert & Sunart Oakwoods Ancient Atlantic oakwood forest, part of one of the largest surviving native woodlands in Scotland — great for short walks and wildlife spotting.

Ben Nevis and the Nevis Visitor Centre

 

From the South (Oban / Glencoe direction)

If you’re coming via Oban or the southern Highlands:

Castle Stalker (near Appin) A postcard-perfect castle on a tidal islet — visible from the A828.

Glencoe Valley (if approaching via A82) Dramatic mountains, waterfalls, and viewpoints — one of Scotland’s most famous landscapes.  Glencoe and the Glencoe Visitor Centre – the perfect stopping point for a cuppa and comfort break before the last leg of the journey

Corran Ferry As above, this is the main crossing point into Ardnamurchan.

Inveraray and Inveraray Castle on the shores of Loch  Fyne

This is a less common but very scenic approach.

Castle Tioram

Take in a bit of the history of the area with a trip to Castle Tioram, where you can cross the causeway to take in the views at close quarters. Sturdy footwear advised.

Exploring Strontian village

With a fascinating mining history and striking architecture of white houses against a mountainous backdrop, Strontian sits at the head of Loch Sunart, a tidal loch in the West Highlands. Strontian is also considered to be the gateway to the Wild West Ardnamurchan Peninsula.
